South Korea 2, Greece 0

In many ways, today’s outcome ween South Korea and Greece played out as expected. The South Koreans were pesky and relentless workers throughout the game, scoring twice for the third straight time in their World Cup opener. Meanwhile, the Greeks lost for the fourth time in four World Cup games and still have not scored a goal. From the outset, Greece looked unstable and disinterested. South Korea’s opening goal in the seventh minute did little to little to help that. After Lee Jung-Soo found the back of the net, the South Koreans began attacking with regularity and had multiple chances to extend their lead. Ultimately, they waited until the 52nd minute when captain Park Ji-Sung pounced on a sloppily relinquished ball in the Greek end by Loukas Vyntra. The defender’s lapse in concentration opened up Park to charge at the goal and neatly tuck the ball past Greece keeper Alexandros Tzorvas to put the game out of reach.

这是关于詹姆斯获得MVP的文章

Under the banners for his high school state championship teams, Cleveland Cavaliers LeBron James accepts the NBA Most Valuable Player award during a ceremony at James' alma mater, Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, in Akron, Ohio on Monday, May 4, 2009. (Agencies)

Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James poses with his trophy and his mother, Gloria, after being named the NBA Most Valuable Player during a ceremony at James' alma mater, Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, in Akron, Ohio, on Monday, May 4, 2009. (Agencies)AKRON, Ohio – Unstoppable at both ends of the floor this season, LeBron James claimed the league MVP on Monday, receiving the award in the high school gym where he first emerged on the national scene. "This is a place where all my dreams started and where I thought they could become real," James said in accepting the award at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. "There's really not a ter place."
The Cleveland Cavaliers star won what some expected to be a close vote in a slam dunk. He received 109 of a possible 121 first-place votes to easily outdistance Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers. James totaled 1,172 points in balloting by media members in the U.S. and Canada.
Bryant, last year's winner, got two first-place votes and finished with 698 points. Miami guard Dwyane Wade was third with 680 points and was named first on seven ballots. Orlando center Dwight Howard (328) was fourth followed by New Orleans guard Chris Paul (192).
James is the first Cavaliers player to win the award. He averaged 28.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.2 assists this season, his sixth as a pro. He also finished second in voting for defensive player of the year, making him perhaps the league's most dominant two-way player since Michael Jordan.
"You look at the guys who have won this award — Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dr. J, Oscar Robertson," James said. "All these guys laid down the path for guys like myself and Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and Dwyane Wade to name a few."
James credited his teammates, who along with coach Mike Brown were present to see him accept the award, for raising their games in the Cavaliers' best season ever.
"Individual accolades come when team success happens," James said. "You look at those 14 guys over there, I got the award because of them. They put in the work."
At 24 years, 106 days on the final day of the regular season, James is the youngest player to win the award since Moses Malone (24 years, 16 days) in 1978-79. Wes Unseld was 23 when he won it in 1968-69.
"I'm 24 years old. To be up here and win this MVP award, I never thought it would happen this fast. I always dreamed about celebrating championships with teammates," James said.
"It takes a lot of sweat," said Cleveland general manager Danny Ferry. "I'm sure he did a lot of sweating right here. I've been fortunate enough to watch him sweat the past four years when no one else was around. I just want to acknowledge that and give it a round of applause."
James vied all season for MVP honors with Bryant and Wade. The three played on the U.S. gold medalist Olympic team last summer and seemed to upstage each other nightly.
"He deserved it," Wade said. "I said all year, I thought LeBron was the MVP of this league. He's a guy who every year is going to be in that conversation. ... He showed it all year, especially with his team's success."
Focused right from the start, the 6-foot-8, 250-pound James sharpened his already formidable skills this season.
He started a career-high 81 games and set personal bests in field-goal (49) and free-throw (79) percentages as well as blocks (93). James became the second player to post five straight seasons of at least 27 points, six rebounds and six assists. The other is Robertson, whose game is the one to which James' is most often compared.
James nearly averaged a triple-double — 32 points, 11.3 rebounds and 7.5 assists — as the top-seeded Cavaliers breezed through the first round of the playoffs, sweeping the Detroit Pistons in four games. Cleveland will host the Atlanta Hawks in Game 1 on Tuesday.
James received the award at the school where he won three state basketball championships and became a Sports Illustrated cover subject at 17 years old. He announced plans to skip college in the Fighting Irish's quaint gym and recently filmed a "60 Minutes" interview there, where his retired No. 23 jersey hangs on a wall.
A few days after the Cavaliers were eliminated from last year's playoffs by Boston, James got back in the gym.
Despite scoring 45 points in the finale, James didn't feel he had done enough. So he went to work. He spent hours at the Cavaliers' training facility working on his jump shot. He practiced finishing at the rim with his left hand, making him nearly impossible to stop inside.
James also began lifting weights like never before, adding muscle to his considerable frame. Then, once he began working out with the Olympic team, James aimed to refine his defensive game and became an elite stopper, often guarding the other team's best player — regardless of position.
"His leaping ability with his strength and explosion, he's by himself," said Cavaliers assistant coach Chris Jent, who spent most of last summer working with James. "We don't have anyone in the league like him. Baseline to baseline he has to be the fastest or one of the fastest guys ever, and he can do it with the ball.
"And then once he gets there, his jumping is up there — maybe by himself. That combination along with his mental attitude and aggressiveness make him unguardable."

关于奥斯卡 罗宾逊的

If the selection of the best all-around basketball, then the well-deserved Oscar Robertson. At the beginning of the second year of his career, he has become on the court and Jane can do. Robertson in the 14 months of the season, scored 26,710 points in NBA history to become the most scoring guard, in his fifth NBA history, while the top four players are center. Brilliant career: 1961 NBA "Rookie"; 9 selected the best NBA team; won the first annual NBA All-Star Game MVP and MVP and the first NBA championship.

Robertson in 1970 in the history of the NBA's lawsuit is one of the most important play of the iceberg. The great significance of the NBA players union on the Union's prosecution of Oscar Robertson's appeal, for the time being interrupted by the NBA and the United States Basketball League (American Basketball Association, referred to as the ABA) of the original merger pace. At the same time challenge the merger, as well as the University of players and draft Prohibition of the NBA free agent to protect the terms of (reserve clause, note: players will be bound by the terms of the contract in the team) the reason why anti-trust case in the name of Robertson because He is the president of the union at that time. In this case the prosecution after the six-year NBA finally reached a settlement, the completion of the merger of the two Union, and the draft will operate as ever.

Be Like Mike: Lakers need Kobe to be Jordanesque

Posted Jun 12 2010 11:35AM

BOSTON -- Not sure which disappeared faster, the Lakers' lead in the NBA Finals or all of those Kobe-is-ter-than-Jordan postseason proclamations.

Maybe one has something to do with the other. No question, Kobe Bryant carries the most weight in this series (figuratively, Big Baby, figuratively) and swag as well. He's drawing the double and triple looks from the Celtics. Making some insane shots. Averaging 28.3 points, easily the highest in the Finals. And burning both ends, because he must keep up with Rajon Rondo.

But at this time of year, did Michael Jordan ever turn someone like Tony Allen into Dennis Johnson for a night? Did Jordan shoot less than 41 percent in the Finals, as Kobe is? Or look less like an MVP in the fourth quarter, as Kobe has the last two games?

You already know the answer to the above.

There's certainly no shame in failing (so far, anyway) to reach the bar raised by MJ, who went 6-0 in Finals and always saved his best for last. And besides, Kobe never said he was as good or ter than Jordan, his legions did. Still, this much, we know: Kobe needs to be Jordanesque from here for the Lakers to beat the Celtics, now drooling like a Big Baby at the possibility of stealing the championship.

That's because the tenor of the series has changed. Andrew Bynum is now hopping around on one healthy knee and most certainly won't be 100 percent, leaving the Lakers light on the boards and interior defense. That puts a bit more responsibility on Lamar Odom to make an impact, on the bench to chip in, on Pau Gasol to outplay Kevin Garnett and of course, on Kobe to do what he does.

It has been an uneven series so far for Kobe, who has yet to drop a monster performance, or at least a fourth quarter full of heroics, something he managed to do in the three previous rounds. When he dropped daggers on the Suns in the Western Conference Finals, best known for the Alvin Gentry Fanny Tap, the Jordan comparisons came thick and heavy. Even Gentry, the Suns coach, marveled how he wasn't sure if "that was Kobe or Jordan out there."

Well, who wasn't impressed? Once again, Kobe flashed his famous killer instinct and was tremendous with something on the line. As the NBA Finals began, it was all about Kobe, again, and his desire to get championship No. 5, one shy of Jordan. Makes you wonder how many more titles Kobe would already own if he didn't develop a beef with Shaquille O'Neal and/or had a healthy Bynum in 2008 against the Celtics.

Here in the rematch with Boston, Kobe has been limited to streaks and flashes. That's all. The most consistent Laker has been Gasol and the big-shot maker was Derek Fisher in Game 3. When Gasol and Fisher were quiet in Game 4 and Bynum was on the bench and the Lakers needed bailing out, Kobe was busy giving up seven turnovers and trying to shake free of Allen in the Game 4 loss.

Doc Rivers is playing it cautious, though, refusing any urge to say the Celtics have Kobe figured out.

"Listen," Rivers said, "he's going to have big games. And like I said in the series against Cleveland, we're going to have to win one of these games where (the superstar) goes off for a big night. And that may come in the next three. But we still have to find a way to win that game."

Well, Kobe is certainly due, and is running out of time. He's shooting a lower percentage than everyone in the rotation except Ron Artest. And the Celtics will certainly study the Game 4 tape when Allen was on the floor. Allen is athletic and while the Celtics surrender offense when he's in the game, they'll gladly take the trade-off if it means keeping a body on Kobe. Two more games like the last one, and Allen, with all due respect to Rueben Patterson, will be remembered as the real Kobe Stopper.

Kobe bristled when Phil Jackson suggested he was tired in the fourth quarter, and had a strange response when asked about the problems Allen presents.

"I'm enjoying it," Kobe said.

Here's what Kobe will enjoy: Two days of Tony Allen hype before Game 5. You can almost visualize Kobe listening to every radiohead and blogger and expert analyst raving about Allen and his D and how Kobe has his work cut out for him. That's a lot of fuel going into Kobe's veins. The big game, as Rivers fears and predicts, may happen Sunday. Kobe could treat Allen the way Jordan did Bryon Russell.

And if not?

Then this will be the championship that Kobe blew. Because the Celtics are not the 2008 version, can't get decent numbers on the same night from all of the Big Old Three and have lost four of their last seven games, dating back to Orlando. Boston is proud and resilient but nothing special, basically.

Kobe, on the other hand, is special. He just hasn't had a performance to match.
